Blue cities are finally realizing just how bad they mistreated their police forces – and now Trump is ready to clean house

Op-ed views and opinions expressed are solely those of the author.

The law enforcement veteran and InVest USA founder discusses a new report that indicates how the mistreatment of officers has left some cities in chaos.

I’ve said it before and will continue to say it until I’m blue in the face.

The “defund the police” campaign was absolute cancer.

Following the death of George Floyd, thousands took to the streets, demanding that police be held accountable for their actions. And as a result, several Democratic politicians felt the same way and gutted their budgets, depriving them of precious resources like better gear to do their job and, more importantly, mental health support.

So what happened as a result? You guessed it. Chaos.

A new report from Fox News reveals just how badly the damage has been done. Several of these cities, labeled “blue cities,” have lost thousands of police officers since 2020, with the fallout from “defund the police” and poor treatment after refusing to take tests for COVID-19 (which, by the way, they had sound reasoning for).

These far-left, anti-police policies pushed them out the door, either by accepting early retirement or simply walking away altogether, not feeling that the dramatics brought on by these Democratic leaders were worth it.

Joe Gamadi, who serves as the vice president of the National Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), couldn’t have made this point any clearer while speaking with Fox. “Police officers aren’t stupid. They realize that their far-left city councils and mayors will throw them under the bus at any opportunity.”

Of course they would. They would do anything to hold onto their popularity lead with the public, rather than – gasp! – support the men and women who actually keep your city safe.

As a result, however, Gamaldi pointed out how some cities have fallen “off a cliff” because of this. These include examples like Chicago, New York, and others, although Portland, Seattle, and Denver all come to mind as well. You can’t even go downtown in any of these areas anymore without running into some form of criminal element. It’s a shame.

So if the Democratic leaders won’t step up and make up for their mistakes, who will?

Trump.

You saw what happened earlier this month when the President decided to call in the National Guard to assist in providing federal policing for Washington, D.C., which has clearly fallen on hard times over the past few years. He had seen enough, just like the hard-working men and women in uniform who have been pushed to their very limits.

Many have criticized Trump’s actions, insisting he’s “militarizing” the state for the sake of his own protection. But that’s not the case at all. It’s about fighting back against violent crime and doing something good with the police – something many of these so-called leaders failed to do.

Gamaldi agrees as well, noting that Trump should move on to other troubled states in an effort to right the wrongs. “I think that crime is going to be a big thing, and we are the party, the Republicans are the party that wants to stop crime,” he explained. “We’re against crime. The Democrats like crime. I don’t know why. I mean, we talk about common sense. I think elected on talking about common sense.”

Right? You’re there to protect citizens. So why not empower the police and give them the ability to further protect these citizens? By bowing to a few rioters and zealots who believe they’re “in the right” about officers “being bad,” they’ve now thrown their cities into turmoil. And now it’s up to the President to clean up their mess. That’s what it’s come to.

Absolutely ridiculous.

“Any police officer worth their salt knows that only about 5% of the community are bad people that are committing crimes, and if you lock them up, crime will go down,” Gamaldi said. “Washington, D.C., right now is the perfect example.”

Exactly. People can say whatever they want online or express any opinion about Trump that they wish. But D.C. is seeing the results of these actions, and crime has dropped dramatically.

With Trump guiding the way, I believe there could be a nice turnaround for the police. Bringing some back in, hiring new officers, and simply providing balance where these terrible leaders could not.

And one last good point from Gamaldi here when it came to why some officers left instead of “toughing it out,” as it were. “If you were working for a company where you followed policy, training, the law, and did your job exactly how they expected you to do it, but it didn’t turn out the outcome that they exactly wanted, and then they indict you, fire you, and vilify you in the media, why the hell would you stay?”

Exactly right. We need to create a playing field where the officers want to stay. So they feel protected. And cared for. Not cast aside for the sake of political opinion.

Let’s create that. I’m all for it.
