The deep blue state of Illinois may be mired in serious debt problems, but when it comes to illegal aliens, Democrat Governor JB Pritzker will spend money like a drunken sailor.
In a move that will further burnish his cred with his party’s pro-illegal base but has drawn outrage from others, the portly progressive signed a bill opening a path to financial aid to all residents including those who are in the country illegally, a “slap in the face” to Illinois taxpayers who could be forced to subsidize the higher education of foreigners.
Rep. Miller to @FoxNews: “Allowing taxpayer-funded financial aid for illegal aliens is a slap in the face to hardworking Illinois families and students. Pritzker signed House Bill 460 into law on Friday, legislation that will guarantee “equitable eligibility for financial aid and benefits” for all of the state’s students, including illegal aliens.
According to the bill, “a student who is an Illinois resident and who is not otherwise eligible for federal financial aid, including, but not limited to, a transgender student who is disqualified for failure to register for selective service or a noncitizen student who has not obtained lawful permanent residence, shall be eligible for financial aid and benefits.”
One of the bill’s sponsors celebrated Pritzker’s signing it into law.
“If you live in Illinois and are pursuing higher education, you should have access to the same opportunities as your peers,” said state Sen. Celina Villanueva, a Chicago Democrat. “This law is about making sure no student is left behind because of where they were born.”
“Too many students have faced closed doors and confusing guidance simply because of their background,” she said. “Illinois invests in all of our students, and we’re committed to helping them succeed.”
But it was slammed by conservatives, including Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL), who roasted Pritzker over his signing of the left-wing legislation.
The congresswoman told Fox News Digital that “allowing taxpayer-funded financial aid for illegal aliens is a slap in the face to hardworking Illinois families and students.”
“Our state is drowning in debt, yet JB Pritzker is determined to drain even more taxpayer dollars to reward illegals,” Miller added. “It’s absolutely shameful.”
The billionaire governor continues to position himself for a 2028 White House run with the latest gift to illegals, a prized constituency of the Democratic Party.
Pritzker also inserted himself into the fight over Texas’s redrawing of congressional maps to nullify Democrat gerrymandering by offering refuge to fugitive left-wing lawmakers in his state after they fled to prevent a quorum in the Texas Legislature, also obstructing vital aid to victims of catastrophic flooding earlier this summer.
An Illinois Republican Party spokesperson also blasted Pritzker’s largesse for illegals, stating, “Once again, Governor Pritzker proves that he is prioritizing illegal immigrants at the expense of Illinois families.”
“Illinois taxpayers should not have their hard-earned taxpayer dollars pay for benefits to illegal immigrants who shouldn’t be here in the first place,” the GOP spokesperson told Fox News Digital.
