Democratic New York mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani faced a profanity-laced confrontation in Staten Island on Wednesday when a local man called him a “Jew-hating piece of shit.”
Mamdani has previously defended slogans like “globalize the intifada” and “from the river to the sea,” telling “The Bulwark” host Tim Miller he opposed banning the language — which prompted backlash from Jewish advocacy groups and critics of his position on Israel. Conservative artist Scott LoBaido confronted Mamdani as he walked out of a Staten Island restaurant, shouting expletives, accusing him of hating Jews, and telling him he wasn’t welcome in the neighborhood.
“You are not welcome in this f*cking island. You f*cking Jew-hating piece of sh*t,” LoBaido shouted at Mamdani. “Hey. Mr. Man-dandy! Can I talk to you? You’re not welcome here.”

“You hate Jews. You hate this f*cking country,” LoBaido continued. He also appeared to invoke the name of Tom Homan, the acting director of Immigration and Customs enforcement.
During an interview with “Meet the Press” host Kristen Welker in June, Mamdani repeatedly refused to condemn the phrase “globalize the intifada.” He also said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would be arrested if he visited New York City, and defended the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement.
Mamdani appeared on MSNBC’s “The Briefing with Jen Psaki” and pledged to boost funding for the city’s hate crime programs by 800% to help “root out” antisemitism.
Mamdani secured the Democratic mayoral nomination by defeating former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the June primary. Cuomo and New York Mayor Eric Adams are both running in the mayoral election.
