Exclusive: Newsmax host hunts down ‘creep’ who allegedly photographed 12-year-old daughter on beach

Newsmax’s Carl Higbie confronted a Connecticut man Wednesday who was accused of allegedly taking photos of Higbie’s 12-year-old daughter at the beach, according to videos first obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation.

The incident, first reported by the Greenwich Time, took place Tuesday afternoon at Tod’s Point Beach, where the man was allegedly acting suspiciously and photographing at least one minor. According to Higbie’s ex-wife, Kaitlyn, she, her current husband, their two sons, 12-year-old daughter, and a friend were at the beach enjoying the day when the incident occurred.

Higbie had not been with the group at the time of the incident.

Kaitlyn told the DCNF that the kids were digging in the sand and burying each other when she went to snap a photo — only to notice “an older gentleman pointing his camera at the girls.” She took a picture of the man, noting it was odd since the background behind the girls “was a brick wall.”

“It wasn’t the ocean or anything like that. He was pointing it at the kids, and there was a background of a brick wall or a rock wall,” Kaitlyn told the DCNF.

While she didn’t initially confront the man, Kaitlyn said she pointed him out to her husband as he walked down the beach. When the man returned along the shoreline, he allegedly pulled out his phone and appeared to take photos as he passed Higbie’s daughter and her friend.

Kaitlyn told the DCNF she then confronted the man while her husband asked to see his phone. The situation quickly escalated, and Kaitlyn said she asked nearby lifeguards to call 911.

The man allegedly refused to hand over his phone and asked if they would avoid calling the police if he deleted the photos. After denying the man’s request, Kaitlyn and her husband followed the man to his car, where a video first obtained by the DCNF shows him going into his recently deleted folder to permanently remove the pictures.

In the footage, the man can be seen selecting at least nine photos, which appear to show children at the beach.

Police later arrived at the scene. Kaitlyn said officials told her, “It’s not illegal to take pictures in a public place.”

According to the Greenwich Time, the Greenwich Police Department posted a statement on Wednesday on Facebook saying, “An adult male was observed taking photographs of an adolescent female on the beach. After being approached by others at the scene, the male left the area in a vehicle.”

Aware of the situation, Higbie confronted the man outside his home Wednesday in a video viewed by the DCNF. The man immediately claimed Higbie hadn’t asked permission to record, prompting the Newsmax host to point out he was clearly standing on a public street before asking why the man had taken photos of his daughter.

“I take pictures as I’m walking sometimes, but, obviously, they were just all over the place,” the man told Higbie. “If I captured your daughter, I apologize, and I’m sorry. I didn’t like being chased to my car, but there are no pictures. And if I was out of line, I apologize, and I’m sorry.”

The investigation is still ongoing, with no official charges against the man.

The Greenwich Police Department did not immediately respond to the DCNF’s request for comment.
