Trump proves yet again he will take questions from anywhere—even the White House roof

Daily Caller News Foundation

President Donald Trump proved on Tuesday that he will take questions from just about anywhere, even when he is on the rooftop of the White House.

Trump walked across the roof of the White House to inspect where an upcoming ballroom is going to be built and was looking for “more ways to spend [his] money for the country.” The president stopped to take questions from reporters who were eager to learn why he was walking on the roof.

“Mr. President, what are you doing up there?” one reporter asked.

“Taking a little walk,” Trump responded, followed by reporters asking him “why.” “I’m going to see the ballroom that’s gonna be on the other side.”

Trump, who the White House has branded as the “most transparent in history,” has notably taken a lengthy time to answer questions from reporters from a variety of different outlets.

The president took more questions on the first day of his second term than former President Joe Biden did in his first entire week. Biden took a total of six questions from the White House press during his first week in office from Jan. 20, 2021, through Jan. 26, 2021, while Trump took 75 questions and follow-ups over a 48-minute period on Jan. 20, 2025.

Biden took questions 51 times during his first three months in office and interacted with the press a total of 164 times over his first year in office. The former president only held nine cabinet meetings during his first term and went nearly a year without holding a single meeting until September 2024.

White House aides frequently shielded Biden from the press during events and would hand him pre-prepared notecards listing which reporters would be asking a question.

The White House announced on July 31 that it would begin construction of a 90,000 square foot ballroom that will hold a seating capacity of 650 people. The new space will be located where the East Wing currently sits and will consist of arched windows and grand chandeliers.
