‘Believing Gavin Newsom is like believing a stripper’: LA residents freeze when Fox asks to name one accomplishment

Daily Caller News Foundation

Fox News’ Johnny Belisario took to the streets of Los Angeles Thursday, where local residents couldn’t name one accomplishment of Democrat California Gov. Gavin Newsom after being asked about his record over the past eight years.

Officially sworn in as the state’s 40th governor, Newsom took office in January 2019 and has since faced backlash as the state has struggled with crime, homelessness and natural disasters. While airing his segment on Fox News’ “Jesse Watters Primetime,” Belisario asked a handful of people to tell him about Newsom.

“Who?” one woman asked.

“Newscum, you mean? That’s what we call him at our office,” a male respondent stated.

Another man said Newsom was a “handsome dude,” while a woman said, “He hates Trump, so like, I’m with that.”

Belisario went on to ask the locals if they could name “his greatest accomplishment” for the state after eight years in office.

“I couldn’t tell you,” two separate men said.

“He became the governor. That’s an accomplishment, right?” a woman asked.

In January, Newsom received massive backlash for his leadership after Los Angeles County suffered from two major fires, wiping out thousands of homes and costing the state millions.  Newsom launched a podcast just a month later, speaking about political issues.

“Didn’t he, like, kind of make it hard for, like, criminals to, like, get charged with things?” another woman asked before backtracking. “That’s not a good thing, though.”

“Believing Gavin Newsom is like believing a stripper,” a man said.

In a recent poll conducted by the Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies (IGS) between April 21 – April 28, exactly 54% of 6,201 registered voters said Newsom is “doing things that might benefit him as a possible candidate for president.” Only 26% believed his actions are helping to solve the state’s problems, with Democrats nearly split — 40% said he’s not benefiting the state, while 41% said he is.

In recent months, Newsom has criticized President Donald Trump and his administration for cracking down on illegal migrants. With Los Angeles being a sanctuary city, the governor took Trump to court after he decided to deploy the National Guard after riots broke out downtown, leading to widespread vandalism, looting and burning cars.
