Gregg Jarrett identifies critical witness interviewed in Durham report and explains why it ‘needs to be declassified’

Daily Caller News Foundation

Legal analyst Gregg Jarrett appeared on Fox Business Monday and called for the full declassification of special counsel John Durham’s report, saying it contains vital information that the public deserves to see.

In 2023, Durham’s report said that the FBI used “uncorroborated intelligence” and failed to maintain “strict fidelity to the law” during its investigation into Trump ahead of the 2016 election. During an appearance on “Kudlow,” Jarrett said the report “needs to be declassified” because it includes crucial interviews, particularly with Igor Danchenko, the primary sub-source of the Steele dossier.

“Durham’s report, in full, including the annex, needs to be declassified because he interviewed a great many people, including Igor Danchenko, who was the sub-source of the Steele phony dossier,” Jarrett said. “And guess where he got his information? From a Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton acolyte. So the Clinton folks fed the bogus information to Danchenko.”

Jarrett said Christopher Steele proceeded to use the unverified information, despite knowing its dubious origins.

“He feeds it to Christopher Steele with a warning, saying, you know, this is all junk. It’s just made up. Steele uses it anyway. And Steele was triple dipping. He was getting paid by the Hillary campaign, the Democratic National Committee and the FBI to compose. I don’t know if you ever actually read the document,” Jarrett said.

Jarrett called out the media, saying that despite the dossier’s glaring flaws, they never took the time to critically read it.

“It’s so funny. I couldn’t stop laughing. It’s sort of like a junior high school wannabe detective fiction writer bereft of any talent. And it’s obvious on its face. It’s all nonsense. Yet the media, I don’t think, ever bothered to actually read the dossier,” Jarrett said. “If they did, they’re the most gullible people in the world.”

In 2016, the Steele dossier set the stage for the FBI’s investigation into alleged collusion between Russia and President Donald Trump’s first presidential campaign. Danchenko is a Russian-born analyst living in the United States who served as the primary source for Steele’s now-debunked dossier about Trump and his campaign.

Danchenko was identified in 2020 as the dossier’s source after a user on X pieced together clues from a redacted FBI memo, revealing Danchenko’s role as a “facilitator” and his educational background in the U.S. In 2022, a federal jury found Danchenko not guilty of making false statements to the FBI.
