Trump doesn’t rule out a rebate for Americans: ‘We have so much money coming in’

President Donald J. Trump floated the possibility of rebate checks for some Americans due to “so much money coming in” from tariffs.

“We have so much money coming in, we’re thinking about a little rebate,” the president told reporters as he was leaving the White House for a trip to Scotland. “But the big thing we want to do is pay down debt — but we’re thinking about a rebate.”

After telling the reporter who inquired about the matter that they just made “big news,” Trump added, “We’re thinking about a rebate because we have so much money coming in from tariffs… that a little rebate for people of a certain income level might be nice.”

Tariff revenue is a real thing, despite all the negative reporting.

“The government collected more than $100 billion in tariff revenue in the first half of this year, per Treasury data, and is on track to collect more than $27 billion this month alone,” Axios reported.

Nonetheless, social media users seemed more than a bit skeptical about the idea of the federal government cutting rebate checks.

Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on X:
