Pro-Democrat group raising cash to stalk ICE as violence against agents skyrockets

Daily Caller News Foundation

A new Democrat-leaning activist group has raised more than $700,000 for “mobile response teams” to confront Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during raids in California as agents face increasing violent assaults.

The organization Save America Movement is asking for donations so its teams can “follow ICE raids in real time,” according to a fundraising text message reported Thursday by Townhall columnist Dustin Grage. The group began launching its first political ads and social media accounts in June, and a fundraising webpage shows it aims to raise $1 million for the anti-ICE initiative.

“ICE agents are raiding L.A. in masks without badges, names, or accountability … So the Save America Movement is launching Liberty Vans: mobile response teams with cameras, chaplains, lawyers, and veterans, and show the world what’s happening in our communities,” the text message says.

The project had amassed $724,395 as of Monday, rising from $280,489 on Thursday and soaring past a previous $500,000 goal, according to archived webpages from the Democratic fundraising website ActBlue.

Save America Movement did not respond to multiple requests for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.

The group announced a steering committee on June 18 that includes Democratic and Democrat-aligned figures such as Erika Alexander, Rev. Dr. William Barber, Ryan Busse, Steve Schmidt, and Billy Ray. Alexander and Barber have previously spoken at the Democratic National Convention (DNC), and Alexander campaigned for failed Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton as early as 2008. Schmidt was also the co-founder of the anti-Trump Lincoln Project before stepping down in 2021.

Barber and another steering committee member, Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove, were arrested with a group of protesters in Washington, D.C., on June 30, according to a blog post from Save America Movement. The protest centered around health and welfare-related provisions of a budget bill that Trump signed into law on July 4.

Save America Movement aims to “confront MAGA” and “engage voters,” among other goals, its website says.

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials have warned that physical assaults on ICE agents are happening nearly seven times more often so far in 2025 than in the same period in 2024. The resistance to immigration enforcement has included two shootings at ICE and Border Patrol facilities in Texas, as well as violent riots in California and around the country.

“While ICE and [Customs and Border Protection] officers are being assaulted by rioters and dodging bullets to save children, Sanctuary politicians are demonizing ICE and CBP,” DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said Friday about a raid the day prior in which agents found unaccompanied minors working at a California cannabis farm. “We will prosecute to the fullest extent of the law anyone who assaults or doxes federal law enforcement.”
