He worked as investigative counsel for the congressional Jan 6 subcommittee, and now he wants to help turn Florida blue.
Robin Peguero has worked for such high-profile Democrat names as Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minnesota, and Rep. Charlie Rangel, D-New York, and has served as a homicide prosecutor in Miami-Dade. Not so long ago, he also worked with the House select committee that investigated the events of January 6, and he is currently employed with St. Thomas University College of Law, where he teaches criminal law.
Peguero believes his next job will be ousting Rep. María Elvira Salazar, R-Florida. He joins fellow Democrats like former Key Biscayne Mayor Mike Davey, businessman Richard Lamondin and accountant Alex Fornino in the race for Salazar’s seat.
“It’s time for us to write a new story for South Florida — one where hard-working families stop being forced to choose between making rent or seeing a doctor, where small businesses have access to resources and tax relief, and where we no longer get squeezed by corporations and billionaires while politicians like María Elvira Salazar do their bidding,” Peguero said on Tuesday in a statement announcing his candidacy.
Peguero and his fellow Democrats may find this race to be more difficult than they imagined, however. Salazar won her last election by more than 20 points, and President Donald Trump took the district by nearly 15 points, indicating that it is a proudly Republican area.
