George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley warned Friday rhetoric from Democrats was a “bill that is coming due” after United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents were fired on during an operation.
One person fired at the ICE agents with a pistol when ICE raided a California marijuana farm after obtaining a warrant, with the FBI offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the suspect’s identification, arrest and conviction. Turley told “America Reports” co-host Sandra Smith that Democrats needed to take responsibility for the rhetoric.
“There is an outrageous pattern of Democratic leaders fueling the rage here for political purposes. They essentially declared this open season on ICE officers. What do you think is going to happen?” Turley told Smith. “What you are going to see is what we just saw. People feel they have a license to engage in violence. You have apps that are tracking ICE officers to try to create these barriers, these protests, and many of them are turning violence, and eventually, these Democratic leaders are going to have to own this.”

“[Democratic Gov. Gavin] Newsom [of California] is saying that this was an outrageous operation, when they found a large number of unaccompanied minors who may have been used for labor, and this is a bill that is coming due for many Democrats, as we see the extent of the abuse of not just undocumented persons, but minors,” Turley continued.
Rioting spread to multiple cities after initially flaring up in Los Angeles following a June ICE operation, with some Democrats demanding that the agency cease its operations to “restore order.”
“We have seen how the media tends to lionize violent protests. They make excuses, they dismiss the so-called peaceful protest narrative,” Turley said. “This was a raid on a cannabis farm that apparently had a significant number of undocumented persons and unaccompanied children. Instead of saying, ‘Wow, that’s what the feds are supposed to do,’ you have this pile-on. You are right, Sandra, this is getting out of control, and it will get worse as long as this rhetoric, this reckless rhetoric, is coming from the left.”
Resistance to ICE operations to arrest illegal immigrants has also included a Milwaukee judge who allegedly helped an illegal immigrant briefly evade ICE agents sent to arrest an illegal immigrant in April and Democratic Mayor Freddie O’Connell of Nashville releasing the names of ICE agents involved in a crackdown on illegal immigrants in the city in May.
In New York City, ICE agents arrested Democratic mayoral candidate Brad Lander June 18 after he allegedly interfered with an ICE operation in a Manhattan court. Democratic Rep. LaMonica McIver of New Jersey was charged with assaulting an ICE agent after a May incident at an ICE facility in Newark.
