Jetsetting elites can now make tax-exempt donations directly to their favorite disruptive eco-activists

Radical climate protest group, Climate Defiance, announced on Tuesday that it is now classified as a 501(c)3 organization by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), making donations to the eco-activist group tax-exempt.

Michael Greenberg, founder of Climate Defiance, said that this status will help the group “level up and reach the max level of power and scale.” The group, founded in 2023, is dedicated to defeating “fossil fuel fascism” and “will defy Trump,” because “there is no other choice,” according to the Climate Defiance website.

Climate Defiance made the announcement on Instagram, claiming that the classification “means less of your money will go towards government giveaways to polluters and weapons manufacturers, and more can go towards ending the era of fossil fuels.”

Activists from Climate Defiance have repeatedly disrupted events featuring representatives and politicians from both parties. In 2024, activists from the group interrupted Republican Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s speech about 9/11 and Arlington Cemetery. Other members planned to protest the Democratic National Committee’s (DNC) winter meeting in January, calling the DNC an “unholy alliance of fossil fuel money and party politics.”

Climate Defiance protestors rushed the field during the congressional baseball game in 2024, before being tackled by Capitol Police. Other members sang climate-themed carols such as “The 12 Days of Crisis” outside of a holiday market in Washington, D.C., leading up to Christmas in 2023.

Prior to its classification as a non-profit, one of Climate Defiance’s main sources of funding was the Climate Emergency Fund, a 501(c)(3) organization that receives millions from wealthy elites.

Climate Defiance endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.
