New poll shows just how hard Hispanic voters broke toward Trump

Daily Caller News Foundation

President Donald Trump came within striking distance of winning an outright majority of Hispanic voters in the 2024 election, a new poll shows.

Trump won 48% of Hispanic voters in 2024, compared to 36% in 2020 and 28% in 2016, according to data Pew Research Center released Thursday. The numbers shed new light on Trump’s gains among minority demographics, with former Vice President Kamala Harris only managing to win Hispanic voters — historically a reliable voting bloc for Democrats — by just 3% in November.

Harris won 51% of Hispanic voters, but Trump massively improved his success relative to the 28% of Hispanic voters who backed him in 2020, Pew Research Center found. By contrast, Harris saw 10% less support from the group than former President Joe Biden did in 2020, and 15% less than Hillary Clinton earned in 2016.

Results by gender were split, with 50% of Hispanic men swinging to the right and supporting Trump while 52% of Hispanic women supported Harris. Notably, Trump improved his marks with Hispanic women in 2024 by 13% relative to 2020.

Trump also made gains among black and Asian voters since 2020 despite Harris winning a majority of both groups, according to the survey. The president won 7% more of black voters and 10% more of Asian voters in 2024 than he did in 2020.

The data on minority voters underscores the extent to which Harris underperformed as a Democratic candidate. The same Pew Research Center study showed that she would have lost by even more in November 2024 if more Americans voted, contradicting narratives that stay-at-home liberals cost her the election.

Democrats have long claimed that Trump is racist toward Hispanic voters due to immigration policies such as mass deportations. However, most Latino voters in recent focus groups covered by NBC News in June said they support his efforts against illegal immigration and his presidency in general.
