On her podcast Wednesday, SiriusXM’s Megyn Kelly ripped into the Democratic Party for running former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo for mayor and allowing Socialist Democratic Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani to secure the nomination.
Late Tuesday, Mamdani clinched the Democratic nomination for New York City’s mayoral race, beating out Cuomo by an estimated seven points, according to Associated Press projections. Weighing in on the prospect of a Democratic Socialist running NYC on “The Megyn Kelly Show,” the host slammed Democrats for the position they’re in and asked why they couldn’t “find a young vibrant” party member who’s “not a fucking loon.”
“The Democrat Party is to blame for this debacle. Why did you feel the need to resurrect a tired, worn, sex pest, old grandma killing loser Democrat who had already exploited the system $5 million to write his book about how great he is? He was already a failure,” Kelly said.

“Can you do no better?” Kelly asked. “You can’t find a young, vibrant Democrat who’s not a fucking loon to run against this kind of a man so that we can prevent his ascension and save America’s and the world’s greatest city? They’re to blame for all of this.”
Prior to the election being called on Tuesday, Cuomo conceded to his supporters, saying Mamdani won the race. He also said Mamdani put “together a great campaign.”
The socialist nominee has faced backlash from critics over the policies he plans to implement if he wins the general election in November.
Throughout his campaign, Mamdani has pushed for raising the city’s minimum wage to $30 and increasing the corporate tax rate and taxes on high earners to generate an estimated $10 billion to fund free buses, free childcare, and city-run grocery stores.
Additionally, Mamdani has been a vocal critic of President Donald Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration, vowing to tighten NYC’s sanctuary laws by ending cooperation with ICE and investing over $160 million in immigration legal funding.
“I totally agree. And I guess we’re all buying Eric Adams now? Like, OK, I guess? He’s not been a good mayor,” guest and Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk responded.
Kelly asked if Republican mayoral nominee Curtis Sliwa could have a chance in the Democrat-led city. Kirk expressed doubt.
“I don’t know if there’s any chance for Curtis. I don’t know. I don’t know New York politics that well. I don’t think so. I guess it’s all about Eric Adams,” Kirk said.
Voters will head to the polls for NYC’s general mayoral race in November, with Mamdani expected to face off against Sliwa and current Democrat Mayor Eric Adams, who is running as an independent.
