‘You just put words in my mouth’: Pam Bondi throws down with Dem rep attempting to attack her ethics

Daily Caller News Foundation

Attorney General Pam Bondi fired back at Democrat Pennsylvania Rep. Madeleine Dean’s repeated attempts on Monday to accuse her of ethics violations.

Dean tried to make Bondi reveal her internal conversations with President Donald Trump regarding the pardons of about 1,500 prisoners who were at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. The attorney general repeatedly told Dean during a House Appropriations Committee hearing that she would never discuss private conversations she has with Trump, as the congresswoman repeatedly asked her the same question.

“I am never going to talk about conversations, advice in any way. I’m never going to talk about discussions I have had or not had, if I can answer, with the president of the United States,” Bondi said, prompting Dean to ask if she gave him advice. “I am not going to discuss any conversations.”

“That’s a no,” Dean interrupted.

“You just put words in my mouth,” Bondi replied. “I am not going to discuss conversations I’ve had with the president of the United States. You asked me a question and you asked me to answer.”

Dean then requested that her time be reclaimed since Bondi supposedly did not answer her question. She then accused Bondi of “corruption” for previously being registered as a foreign lobbyist for the embassy of Qatar to advocate against human trafficking.

“Attorney general, have you ever been registered as an agent for foreign principles under the Foreign Agents Registration Act?” Dean asked.

“I assume you’re talking about when I represented the country of Qatar for a very short time, hold on, hold on, for anti-human trafficking for the World Cup. Anti-human trafficking for the World Cup,” Bondi said. “You can’t put words in my mouth. You want to talk about incompetence, you’re the one who said [former President] Joe Biden on PBS was competent! You had to retract those words. So don’t talk to me, don’t insult me publicly.”

Dean told PBS News in July 2024 that she was “unapologetically supportive” of former President Joe Biden and that he had “effectively” proven that he had the “capacity” to serve another term. She made these remarks as many in her party called on Biden to drop out of the 2024 race over his disastrous debate performance, and later details emerged that the then-president often appeared confused, did not recognize his acquaintances, and was intentionally hidden from the public by his aides.

The Pennsylvania congresswoman then attempted to get Bondi to discuss her possible involvement in Trump accepting a jet from Qatar as a gift, which Bondi refused to discuss.

“I will not discuss any advice that my Office of Legal Counsel gives to the president of the United States on any matter … And talking about unprofessional, you say the president wanted the jet because it’s pretty?” Bondi said. “Come on. This is a congressional hearing.”

Republican Rep. Tom Cole of Oklahoma, the chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, ordered Dean to allow Bondi to answer the question as she raised concerns about Trump’s meme coin. She appeared aggravated as Bondi pointed to the child sex trafficking occurring in her own state.

Bondi also assured the committee that she has abided by all ethical guidelines.
