Megyn Kelly guest spells out ‘most difficult’ factor for Americans on Iran showdown

Daily Caller News Foundation

Breaking Points anchor Emily Jashinsky told SiriusXM’s Megyn Kelly on Monday that the “most difficult” factor in deciding where to stand on the U.S.’ handling of Iran is determining the authenticity of the intelligence.

President Donald Trump announced Saturday on Truth Social that the U.S. had a “very successful attack on the three nuclear sites in Iran.” While on “The Megyn Kelly Show,” the SiriusXM host asked Jashinsky what she believes the right call for Trump was on the issue.

“He [Donald Trump] had a near-death experience that changed his view, I think, of his own consequential life and in our place in the world anyway. For all those reasons, Trump did what nobody else would do. So, what should he have let them do? Just if he believed that intel? Just let ’em get it?” Kelly asked.

“I think your hypothetical about the intel is what’s most difficult for me because if you are just a civilian and you have to rely on the reporting and the fog of war, strategic leaks about what the intel is. So, for example, my colleague Saager [Enjeti] has reported that we don’t have any American intel. We have Israeli intel that Americans are relying on because Mossad has an impressive operation in Iran,” Jashinsky said.

War between Israel and Iran broke out on June 12 after Israel fired preemptive strikes at Iran, killing top Iranian military officials and significantly damaging sites tied to the country’s nuclear weapons program. Initially, after the strikes, the U.S. maintained that there had been no involvement in the attack, with Trump saying he had been aware of the hit before it occurred.

Concerns over potential U.S. involvement later increased as Trump told reporters Wednesday that his demand for Iran is “unconditional surrender.”

“We’ve been told for 25 years they’re going to have the bomb within a year, six months, weeks,” Kelly said. “We ran that. But it’s [from] Bibi [Benjamin Netanyahu]. So it has a boy who cried wolf feel to it. And you’re talking about American lives potentially.”

“Yeah. I was rereading some of the reporting from Judith Miller and others back in 2003 about the lead up to the Iraq war the other day,” Jashinsky said.. “Again, I get it’s not apples to apples, but when you’re reading it you just realize how eerily similar the pattern of selective leaking is. There are some people who do, I think, for unfortunate reasons. It’s not that they’re bad people, but that they prefer military action, who are strategically leaking things in a way that would push us down the slippery slope.”

Iran retaliated Monday against the U.S., striking Al Udeid U.S. Air Base in Qatar. Trump said Iran had come to an official ceasefire with Israel. Taking to Truth Social, the president said, “It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE.”
