The Department of the Interior (DOI) lambasted the energy and climate outlet E&E News, a Politico subsidiary, for its coverage on the Trump administration this week.
DOI press secretary Charlotte Taylor excoriated the outlet as “desperate,” arguing that E&E News does not fairly report on the Trump administration’s major push to rein in the federal bureaucracy on a consistent basis.
“The Department is not going to comment on a desperate outlet like E&E News. They only report on leaks from government agencies and even high school newspapers have a bigger readership,” Taylor told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “What E&E refuses to report on is the fact that President Donald J. Trump is making our government more efficient and is delivering real results for the American people.”
Since the Trump administration took power in Washington, E&E News has profiled fired DOI employees, ran a story in which a fired DOI inspector general suggested that the Trump administration may hire a “lackey” to replace him and a third post intimating that Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum may have “abdicated his authority” to Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) personnel. Moreover, the outlet published a piece on Juneteenth in which bureaucrats, granted anonymity out of fear of retribution, told the outlet about how the Trump administration does not appear to be celebrating the holiday like the Biden administration did.
E&E News reports on a wide swath of energy topics, several stories centered around climate change or environmental issues. Though E&E News is owned by the major media outlet Politico, it is a “distinct brand and product,” according to its website.
E&E News did not respond to the DCNF’s request for comment.
