Victor Davis Hanson appeared on Fox News Tuesday to criticize Democrats’ opposition to the use of masks by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.
Border czar Tom Homan said in a May 30 press briefing that assaults on ICE agents are rising, with “doxxing” reaching record levels, while Democratic New York Rep. Dan Goldman claimed he confronted masked agents in his building and accused them of hiding because their actions weren’t “legitimate.” During an appearance on “Jesse Watters Primetime,” Hanson defended ICE and pointed to the extensive reach of Mexican gangs, both within the U.S. and beyond, with operatives capable of identifying officers and threatening their families.
“I live in a very rough neighborhood, and we’ve had people come in and arrest, in my neighborhood, gang members,” Hanson told Jesse Watters. “They all had to wear masks because everybody who knows anything about the Mexican gangs, take just one example, knows that they have contacts in the United States and outside the United States, in prison and out. And they can identify somebody and call on a cell phone, and that person’s family will be in danger.”
Hanson also criticized the same university environments where radical, pro-Palestinian, and pro-Hamas students are allowed to wear masks without issue.
WATCH:
“It’s a very strange logic that we have radical Palestinian, pro-Palestinian, pro-Hamas, pro-terrorist students that the universities are letting to wear a mask. And yet, they object to people who are trying to save their families and enforcing the law,” Hanson said.
President Donald Trump issued multiple executive orders to tackle illegal immigration and border security, designating Mexican drug cartels, the Venezuelan prison gang Tren de Aragua (TdA), and the El Salvadoran prison gang MS-13 as foreign terrorist organizations on Jan. 20. He invoked the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 on March 15 to expedite the deportation of gang members.
Opposition to ICE operations includes a Milwaukee judge accused of aiding an illegal immigrant in evading capture, as well as Nashville’s Democratic Mayor Freddie O’Connell, who disclosed the identities of ICE agents involved in a citywide immigration enforcement operation.
