White House rips ‘pathetic’ Washington ‘ComPost’ for story on ‘mysterious’ drop in fentanyl

The Washington Post was ripped over its “pathetic” reporting on the “mysterious” drop in border seizures of fentanyl since President Donald J. Trump took office.

Rather than give Trump credit for stopping the flow of the deadly drug into the country, the once-venerable newspaper feigned ignorance in yet another example of the media’s brazen political bias that has left its reputation in tatters with the American people.

According to the CDC, fentanyl was linked to the deaths of 48,422 people in the U.S. in 2024, a grim number owing much to the open borders policies of the Joe Biden administration, but so far this year, seizures at the southern border in 2025 are down 30 percent over the same period last year. According to WaPo,  the drop “represents something of a mystery.”

“After years of confiscating rising amounts of fentanyl, the opioid that has fueled the most lethal drug epidemic in American history, U.S. officials are confronting a new and puzzling reality at the Mexican border. Fentanyl seizures are plummeting,” the paper reported.

Other than a change in leadership, the Post suggests that some possible reasons for the decline include cartels adjusting their smuggling strategy, internal strife among cartels, a shortage of ingredients, and declining demand.

Despite not reporting the obvious of what has changed, the paper claimed that “public health authorities are concerned that the Trump administration’s budget cuts could hurt programs that have promoted overdose antidotes and addiction treatment.”

The Post’s insistence that the drop off is due to “mysterious” and unknown reasons was met with mockery and scorn from the White House, congressional Republicans, and X users.

“The Washington ComPost clearly suffers from Trump Derangement Syndrome,” said White House Communications Director Steven Cheung. “They can’t stand that President Trump’s strong border policies have led to a DECREASE in fentanyl coming into the U.S.”

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt dismissed the Post and its dishonest reporting as “pathetic.”

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) also shed light on the “mysterious” reason for the interruption in fentanyl trafficking.

White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson told Fox News Digital that “the drop in fentanyl seizures at the border is only a mystery to Washington Post reporters suffering from Trump-Derangement Syndrome.”

“As of March, fentanyl traffic at the Southern Border had fallen by more than half from the same time last year, while Joe Biden’s open border was still terrorizing America,” she said. “Everyone else knows the simple truth: President Trump closed our border to illegal drug traffickers, and Americans are safer because of it.”
