Failed presidential candidate Kamala Harris is back on the fundraising trail after her 2024 campaign burned through a mountain of cash in just under four months, sources told The New York Times on Tuesday.
Harris will speak at a Democratic National Committee fundraiser in San Francisco on June 3 after blowing through more than $1 billion in just over 100 days in the 2024 presidential race in which she failed to defeat President Donald Trump, sources told the NYT. The Harris campaign spent lavishly on publicity and other expenses, including costly podcast appearances and flashy celebrity appearances at campaign events.
Harris has ramped up public appearances in recent weeks as rumors circulate about her political ambitions, which may include a run for governor of California in 2026.
The Harris campaign set records for fundraising during the 2024 campaign, netting a whopping $1 billion in just the third quarter of that year, according to The New York Times. Despite the massive amount of cash in the campaign’s coffers, Harris lost the popular vote by about 2 million and was defeated in all seven swing states on Election Day.
Among the more unconventional campaign expenses was a $100,000 bill to set up a replica set for an interview on the Call Her Daddy podcast, and a $3.9 million splurge on recruiting 5,000 social media influencers to promote the Harris campaign online, according to the New York Post. The campaign also paid Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Productions $1 million, according to The Washington Examiner, and spent millions on private jet charters, according to Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings.
The most spending was targeted at taking down Trump, with pro-Harris PACs splurging nearly half a billion dollars in anti-Trump attack ads between October 5 and November 5, 2024. Despite the election loss, Harris’s campaign continued to solicit donations to the Democratic Party to help fund challenges to contested congressional races.
Harris was also reportedly considering starting her very own think tank, reaching out to universities such as Stanford and Howard to host the institute. She also signed with Creative Artists Agency (CAA), a major Hollywood talent agency, to “expand her platform in support of the issues she has championed throughout her decades-long career in public service,” the agency said, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Harris’ office did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
