Scott Jennings teases ‘something big is coming’ and speculation runs wild

Amid speculation he may concede to President Donald J. Trump’s purported wishes, CNN contributor Scott Jennings teased that a “big” development is on its way.

“Something big is coming. Stay tuned,” Jennings posted on X, along with a photo of himself standing next to Trump on Air Force One — the president is holding a blurred-out image.

There’s talk about the conservative commentator, who hails from Kentucky, possibly running for Senate in the state to replace Sen. Mitch McConnell — the senator, who has been in office for 40 years (Ronald Reagan was president at the time) is 83 years old and has announced that he will not run for reelection in 2026. Given his declining health, there’s little chance he could run again if he wanted to.

“If the president wants me, I’ll run,” Jennings said Saturday at a White House Correspondents’ Dinner afterparty, according to the Daily Beast. “If he wants somebody else, I’ll support that candidate.”

So is that the big news? Or is a position somewhere within the Trump administration in the offing? There’s a vacancy for national security adviser after Mike Waltz was tapped this week to be ambassador to the United Nations — Secretary of State Marco Rubio is replacing Waltz on an interim basis.

One thing is certain: Jennings will take a pay cut if he leaves CNN, having recently received “a big pay raise and a new contract,” according to the New York Post.

There was a general feeling of excitement online over the possibility of Jennings running to replace “The Turtle,” as McConnell is sometimes called — here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on X:
