Republican Sen. John Kennedy of Louisiana told Fox News host Sean Hannity on Tuesday that Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez leads the Democratic Party and compared Ocasio-Cortez to a barnyard animal and a songbird while describing her.
Ocasio-Cortez is leading an “anti-oligarchy” tour targeting President Donald Trump and White House senior advisor Elon Musk alongside independent Sen. Bernard Sanders of Vermont. Hannity noted that Ocasio-Cortez, Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett of Texas and other members of “The Squad,” a group of left-wing members of Congress, appeared to be leading the Democratic Party.
“I think Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez is the leader of the Democratic Party today. Some might say Senator Schumer, but —” Kennedy said before Hannity added, “Schumer’s at a 17% approval rating today, 17! Democrats are in the 20s.”
WATCH:
Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York, the Senate minority leader, came under fire from left-wing media figures and Democrats in Congress over his decision to help pass a GOP-backed spending bill to prevent a government shutdown in March, with Democratic Rep. Glenn Ivey of Maryland calling for Schumer’s replacement as leader of Senate Democrats on March 19.
“I think it’s Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez. And as I’ve said before, she’s entitled to her opinions,” Kennedy said. “You know, my personal opinion is that God gave her a billygoat brain and a mockingbird mouth, you know? Look, I believe in the power of ideas, and my Democratic colleagues have no ideas. All they have is hatred for one man, even when he’s right, and that is President Trump. And I don’t think that’s healthy for them. I don’t think that’s healthy for America.”
Democratic Rep. Shri Thanedar of Michigan introduced an impeachment resolution targeting Trump, while Schumer refused to rule out the possibility if Democrats took control of Congress in the 2026 midterm elections.
Democrats have increased their use of profanity and combativeness since Crockett clashed with Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia during a May 2024 House Oversight Committee hearing, calling the confrontational approach being “dark woke,” according to The New York Times.
