‘I am totally excited’: Swing-state Trump voters tell MSNBC they’re ‘very optimistic’ based on his first 100 days

Voters in Ada, Michigan, who backed President Donald Trump in the 2024 election, expressed enthusiasm with his administration in a Tuesday MSNBC segment based on the first 100 days of his second term.

Trump has received credit for the success of his administration’s immigration crackdown in its first 100 days, with a White House fact sheet released Monday showing that border crossings, migrant encounters, and “gotaways” were all down by 93% or more. NBC News correspondent Shaquille Brewster, on “Chris Jansing Reports,” said these voters, whom he met during the 2024 presidential campaign, were “excited about voting for Trump” and are currently “even more excited,” particularly noting their appreciation for his handling of immigration.

“I am totally excited. Everybody I know is excited,” a female Trump voter told Brewster. “My biggest issue is the border, and he’s killing it.”

“I’m really very optimistic, and I know that right now with the tariffs that there’s a little bit of pain,” a male Trump voter told Brewster. “Things are happening right now that right now aren’t — we’re not in a good place.”

Brewster asked the voter if he was okay with the “pain” temporarily.

“Well, I don’t think I’m an instant gratification person,” the voter responded. “I think that sometimes you have to go through a little bit of the fire to get to the end of the rainbow.”

A second male Trump voter said he wants the Trump administration to publicize its accomplishments more.

“I think they ought to be touting their successes a lot more,” he said. “You know, I think they could be letting us know the things that they’re doing and the things that they intend to do and what the plan is.”

Brewster added that the voters did express some concern about certain Trump administration cuts to the federal government. “But they say that they essentially are giving him the benefit of the doubt because they use his analogy that sometimes it’s about trimming the fat and it’s about making things more lean,” the reporter said. “They believe that it’s ultimately going to lead to a better place even if they question some of the specific actions they see.”

Wisconsin 2024 Trump voters also expressed satisfaction with the president’s administration to Brewster in a March MSNBC segment, believing he was following through on his campaign pledges.

The blue-wall state of Michigan was key to Trump’s victories in 2016 and 2024, and his loss in 2020. He is scheduled to return to the state to hold a rally in Macomb County, Michigan, on Tuesday.

However, several recent polls have found that numerous Americans are dissatisfied with Trump’s handling of the economy so far. Yet the president has achieved some economic successes, including the U.S. exceeding economists’ expectations by adding 228,000 jobs in March and inflation cooling slightly the same month.
