Reporter asks Trump about butt-dial: ‘Did you mean to call me at 1:30 in the morning?’

An interview between President Donald Trump and three Atlantic employees seemed normal until one brought up an apparent butt dial.

Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey Goldberg and reporters Michael Scherer and Ashley Parker were responsible for grilling the president for the interview, getting into a wide variety of important topics. One of the more pressing matters was the infamous Signal chat that Goldberg was accidentally added to, which sparked breathless reports from critical news outlets eager to pounce on any perceived scandal from the administration.

Trump explained that National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth are both “fine” and “safe” in their jobs. He also revealed the lesson learned from that error.

“I think we learned: Maybe don’t use Signal, okay?” the president said. “If you want to know the truth. I would frankly tell these people not to use Signal, although it’s been used by a lot of people. But, whatever it is, whoever has it, whoever owns it, I wouldn’t want to use it.”

“You don’t use Signal yourself?” Parker wondered.

“I don’t use it, no,” Trump answered.

As the interview was winding up, Scherer asked the president if he “meant to call” him at nearly 2 a.m.

“Did you mean to call me at 1:30 in the morning after the UFC fight? I got a call—” Scherer began.

“After what?” Trump asked.

“After the UFC fight in Miami, I got a call from your cellphone number at 1:30 a.m.,” the reporter continued.

“Really? Oh, no, that’s another—that sounds like another Signal thing,” the president quipped.
