Another MSNBC superstar parts ways with network

NBC News’ Steve Kornacki will not return to MSNBC after 12 years following the network’s spinoff arrangement.

Kornacki, the popular political data sensation, has agreed to remain with NBC News in his renewed contract and expand his appearances across the network’s news and sports divisions, The Los Angeles Times reported. The contract does not include his employment at MSNBC, which has turned into a new corporate entity by its parent company, Comcast.

Comcast announced plans to spin off MSNBC, along with other networks, after the network’s ratings fell 53% following President Donald Trump’s defeat of former Vice President Kamala Harris in November 2024.

The new contract makes Kornacki an NBC contributor with the title of chief data analyst, according to the LA Times.

Kornacki’s departure from MSNBC marks another major shakeup for the network following former anchor Joy Reid’s firing in February. Reid, who was known for obsessing over race during her 7 p.m. program, had been replaced by co-hosts Michael Steele, Symone Sanders-Townsend, and Alicia Menendez.

At MSNBC, Kornacki made frequent appearances during the 2024 election where he broke down key polling numbers for the then-Republican nominee Donald Trump, former President Joe Biden, and former Vice President Kamala Harris. He further played an important role in election coverage in 2020, where he put in record-long hours in front of the touchscreen as results took days to finalize.

The popular data guru began his career as a political writer, earning him a contributor gig at CNN, according to The LA Times. He joined MSNBC in 2012 as a co-host on the program, “The Cycle,” and became a regular in the network’s lineup.

MSNBC did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
