Republican strategist Scott Jennings called out former Biden administration official Neera Tanden Tuesday about the number of illegal immigrants with criminal records allowed into the United States after she complained about efforts to deport members of Tren de Aragua (TdA).

President Donald Trump invoked the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to speed up the deportation of TdA gang members Saturday, but United States District Judge James Boasberg of the District of Columbia issued an injunction ordering the Trump administration to turn two planes carrying members of the gang to El Salvador around. Tanden objected to Trump’s call for the House of Representatives to impeach Boasberg, but Jennings pointed out the “crazy” rulings were endangering the “national security” of America.

“I don’t think we should impeach judges over rulings. But I think it’s also — if I were Donald Trump, I’d be pissed as well, because I think some of these rulings are crazy,” Jennings said. “They put the national security of the United States in danger, and he needs to be allowed to operate as the president, as the Constitution dictates.”

Republican Rep. Brandon Gill of Texas introduced a resolution to impeach Boasberg over the injunction Tuesday, The Hill reported.

“I think the question in these cases is really whether the assertions the president is making are actually true, or whether they’re doing what we‘ve seen in other cases, where they’re rounding up people who have not committed any crime, who are not — who are not criminals in the United States, and sending those people to places they‘ve never even lived before,” Tanden claimed. “So I kind of think it’s actually reasonable in our system of constitutional democracy, which we hear so many lectures from Republicans about why the Constitution is so important —”

“I know,” Jennings responded to Tanden. “Your administration let them all in. We’re trying to get rid of them. I totally get why you’re upset.”

Tanden, whose 2021 nomination to be director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) was withdrawn by President Joe Biden after her history of disparaging Republican senators resurfaced, served in multiple positions in the Biden White House, including domestic policy advisor.

“Slightly different. Actually — no, no. See, I think it’s a fascinating thing, because this whole debate is you want to make it about just criminals, but that is not what’s happening. I think it’s —” Tanden said before Jennings cut in, saying, “They are. They’re illegal immigrants. They are criminals.”

The Border Patrol encountered millions of illegal immigrants during the Biden administration, according to figures released by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem announced on Feb. 25 that only 200 illegal immigrants were apprehended at the U.S.-Mexico border, the lowest single-day total in 15 years.
