Actress Julianne Moore said her children’s book has been banned from schools run by the Department of Defense after President Donald J. Trump issued executive orders prohibiting the promotion of discriminatory DEI and transgender indoctrination in the federal government.
The 64-year-old Academy Award winner expressed “great shock” that her semi-autobiographical book “Freckleface Strawberry” which is about a seven-year-old girl who “dislikes her freckles but eventually learns to live with them” was reportedly banned, sparking a firestorm in the anti-Trump media.
“It is a great shock for me to learn that my first book, Freckleface Strawberry, has been banned by the Trump Administration from schools run by the Department of Defense,” wrote the “Boogie Nights” star in a lengthy post to Instagram on Sunday.

“Freckleface Strawberry is a semi-autobiographical story about a seven-year-old girl who dislikes her freckles but eventually learns to live with them when she realizes that she is different ‘just like everybody else.’ It is a book I wrote for my children and for other kids to remind them that we all struggle, but are united by our humanity and our community,” the actress said.
“I am particularly stunned because I am a proud graduate of Frankfurt American High School a #DOD school that once operated in Frankfurt, Germany. I grew up with a father who is a Vietnam veteran and spent his career in the #USArmy,” Moore continued. “I could not be prouder of him and his service to our country. It is galling for me to realize that kids like me, growing up with a parent in the service and attending a @dodea_edu school will not have access to a book written by someone whose life experience is so similar to their own.”
“I can’t help but wonder what is so controversial about this picture book that caused it to be banned by the US Government. I am truly saddened and never thought I would see this in a country where freedom of speech and expression is a constitutional right,” Moore wrote in the Instagram post.
But as is most often the case with media reports that whip up outrage against Trump, there is more to the story and Moore’s book has not actually been “banned” but is among the materials that are merely being reviewed.
The alleged ban of “Freckleface Strawberry” was first reported by the UK-based outlet “The Guardian” which said that the book had been relocated “to the professional collection for evaluation with access limited to professional staff.”
According to the Guardian, “The Department of Defense circulated a memo to parents on Monday that said that it was examining library books ‘potentially related to gender ideology or discriminatory equity ideology topics’. The memo, which has been obtained by the Guardian, said that a ‘small number of items’ had been identified and were being kept for ‘further review.'”
The outlet’s report also quoted Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), a shameless Trump-hating hysteric and serial liar who has frequently promoted misinformation about the alleged banning of books.
According to the J6 committee veteran, the banning of books with racist and extreme gender ideology is “naked content and viewpoint censorship of books,” the grandstanding Democrats said during a recent hearing on the so-called “censorship-industrial complex,” the Guardian reported.
“DoDEA is reviewing its current policies and DoDEA-adopted instructional resources to ensure compliance with applicable Executive Orders and Department of Defense guidance,” DoDEA spokesman Will Griffin said in a statement, adding that books “potentially related to gender ideology or discriminatory equity ideology” were to be placed under review to ensure compliance with the president’s executive order.
