‘We’re winning’: John Kennedy calls out Dems who have chosen to support ‘spending porn’ over American people

Daily Caller News Foundation

Republican Louisiana Sen. John Kennedy on Tuesday called out Democratic lawmakers shrieking about Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) head Elon Musk for choosing to support wasteful government spending over the wellbeing of the American people.

Kennedy said President Donald Trump and Musk’s efforts to cut wasteful federal spending from agencies like the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), which poured billions of taxpayer dollars into left-wing and LGBTQ causes around the globe, are popular with the American people.

“I’m unapologetically with Trump and Musk. Among the blue hairs and the opinion writers in Washington, we’re losing. We’re winning with the American people and I think the big picture should not go unnoticed. Some people, mostly my Democratic colleagues, have chosen to support the bureaucracy and the spending porn over the American taxpayer,” Kennedy said. “These are the same folks who chose to support illegal immigration over the rule of law, who chose to support teacher’s unions over school and kids, who chose to support criminals over crime victims, who chose to support transgender athletes over women’s sports. Frankly, who chose to support Hamas over Israel. Now they think they’re winning, and they may be in the bubble of Washington, but not among the taxpayers.”

USAID handed a $2 million grant to fund sex change operations in Guatemala, gave out $68 billion in foreign aid in 2023 and sent 65.5 million condoms, 9.8 million injectable birth control products and 334,000 IUDs abroad in fiscal year 2022. Trump and Musk decided to dismantle USAID on Feb. 3 which prompted the president to appoint Secretary of State Marco Rubio to be acting director of the agency.

Democratic lawmakers gathered in front of the Department of Treasury building on Feb. 4 where they shrieked and spewed violent rhetoric about Musk dismantling USAID. Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar claimed people would be killed by the dismantlement of the agency, while Massachusetts Rep. Ayanna Pressley threatened to set “fire” to the Republican Party and called Musk a “Nazi nutball baby” and a “godless, lawless billionaire.”

Democratic Sens. Chris Murphy of Connecticut and Andy Kim of New Jersey warned that Trump has placed the U.S. into a “constitutional crisis,” with Kim stating he is ready to shut down the government over the president’s recent actions.

Trump said he will direct Musk to investigate other federal agencies, including the Department of Education and the military, because the American people elected him to cut wasteful spending. In response, Kennedy said the same Democrats who are outraged by Trump’s actions stood behind former President Joe Biden when he intended to hire 87,000 new agents to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in 2022.

“On the prior discussion, the same people who are screaming at Trump for auditing federal spending are the same people under President Biden who wanted to hire 80,000 IRS agents with guns to audit the American people, I find that breathtakingly hypocritical,” Kennedy said.

The Louisiana senator said he trusts in the U.S. Supreme Court and federal appeals courts to rightly review and decide on which of Trump’s executive orders can stand.
