LA’s ‘Recovery Chief’ agrees to work without pay after Ric Grenell exposed he was getting $500K for 3 months

After being exposed for pulling in a half-million dollar salary, Los Angeles “Recovery Chief” Steve Soboroff quickly agreed to work for free.

While California works to begin recovery efforts following the disastrous fires that disrupted lives and destroyed homes and businesses, Special Envoy Ric Grenell revealed the Soboroff was making a pretty penny as residents struggled with losing everything.

“He’s getting paid $500,000 for 3 months of work? And they call this a charity. Gross. Offensive. I’m getting paid $0 – as are many people,” Grenell said. “It’s a good thing there will be strings on the Federal money for California.”

The realization prompted public outcry from those accusing him of profiting off the misery of the very people he is tasked with helping, resulting in Soboroff agreeing to undertake the role for no pay.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass confirmed this update with a statement praising the “recovery chief.”

“Steve is always there for LA. I spoke to him today and asked him to modify his agreement and work for free. He said yes. We agree that we don’t need anything distracting from the recovery work we’re doing,” she wrote.

Soboroff was brought in to coordinate recovery efforts amid criticism of Bass’s response, which began with her being out of the country as the fires broke out.
