‘Denmarkification’: Danish group floats buying California to counter Trump’s Greenland threats

A hilarious campaign has popped up following President Donald Trump’s threats to buy Greenland.

A group behind the “Denmarkification” campaign is suggesting the country purchase California, and instill their Danish values in the locals.

“Have you ever looked at a map and thought, ‘You know what Denmark needs? More sunshine, palm trees, and roller skates.’ Well, we have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make that dream a reality. Let’s buy California from Donald Trump!” the website reads. “Yes, you heard that right. California could be ours, and we need your help to make it happen.”

At the top of the site are the words “Make California Great Again” and each button takes you to a different section of the webpage, including the “Why California?” section where they list some amusing ‘justifications’ for their mission.

“Sunshine Galore: Let’s face it, Denmark’s weather is… well, let’s just say it’s cozy. California has 300 days of sunshine a year. Imagine swapping your rain boots for flip-flops!” it reads.

Another section boasts “testimonials” from the likes of “Bjorn A. Nonymous”, “Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich”, and “Hans Christian Anderson.”

The bottom of the webpage boasts a disclaimer saying “This campaign is 100% real… in our dreams.”

It is a comedic reaction to Trump’s very real consideration of purchasing Greenland, which is said to have strategic advantages as well as a wealth of natural resources that would benefit the United States of America.

As BizPac Review previously reported, Secretary of State Marco Rubio quashed the belief that Trump’s interest in the Danish autonomous territory is a joke.

“Well, I think President Trump, what he has said publicly is he wants to buy it. He wants to pay for it. How we worked on something like that, how something like that is approached, obviously is probably done better in the appropriate forms. A lot of this stuff is done publicly, and it’s not helpful because it puts the other side in a tough spot domestically,” he explained to radio show host Megyn Kelly. “So those conversations are going to happen. But this is not a joke. What he is saying is pretty accurate.”

“This is not about acquiring land for the purpose of acquiring land. This is in our national interest, and it needs to be solved. President Trump has put out there what he intends to do, which is to purchase it. I wasn’t privy to that phone call, but I imagine the phone call went the way a lot of these phone calls go, and that is he just speaks bluntly and frankly with people,” he noted. “Ultimately I think diplomacy in many cases works better when you’re straightforward as opposed to using platitudes and language that translates to nothing.”
