Radio host Charlamagne Tha God said Tuesday that he appreciated how President Donald Trump criticized Democrats while they were present in the Capitol Rotunda during his Monday inaugural address.
Trump pledged to reverse Democratic policies and criticized their actions, declaring, “America’s decline is over” now that he has taken over, according to a transcript of his remarks. When his co-hosts on “The Breakfast Club” noted how Trump trashed his predecessors, Charlamagne defended him for doing so.

“Why you mad at him for telling the truth? Because the reality of the situation is Republicans treat Democrats the way Democrats should treat Republicans. And I’ve been saying that. They want to be nice,” Charlamagne said. “You know what’s so ill about what happened this weekend? [Former first lady] Michelle Obama said, ‘When they go low, we go high.’ Michelle Obama decided to go low and say, ‘F all of y’all. I ain’t showing up,’ but y’all still going high for what reason? Michelle Obama’s letting y’all know, ‘Listen, I believe this man is a fascist. I believe this man is a threat to democracy. I’m not about to show up and play nice with y’all,’ but y’all still going high, and for what reason?”
Co-host DJ Envy supported Charlamagne’s point, noting that Trump did not attend former President Joe Biden’s inauguration.
“And you know why? Because he said the election was stolen … You know why I respect what he did in 2020? Because he said something and he acted like he believed it, unlike the Democratic leaders that we have now. If you say something, act like you believe it. Michelle Obama said something, and she’s acting like she believes it,” Charlamagne added. “[Former President] Barack Obama, the opposite. President Biden, the opposite. I don’t respect that. I respect Donald Trump up there giving his inauguration speech and telling all of them to their face, ‘Y’all ain’t piss. I don’t like none of y’all.’”
Charlamagne also said that Trump’s “base loved” his remarks, pointing out that Obama and former President Bill Clinton received boos when they entered the Capitol Rotunda.
Trump also declared a new “golden age” during his speech, vowing that his administration will make the U.S. the “envy of every nation,” restore safety and make the country “greater, stronger and far more exceptional” than any other time in American history.
