Trump declares ‘golden age’ in speech to usher in second term

President Donald Trump declared a new “golden age” in America as he promised to undue former President Joe Biden’s policies during his Monday inaugural speech inside the Capitol Rotunda.

Trump, who was sworn in as the 47th president Monday, vowed that his administration will make the U.S. the “envy of every nation,” restore safety, and make the country “greater, stronger and far more exceptional” than any other time in American history. The newly elected president vowed to reverse several significant portions of former President Joe Biden’s legacy in his inaugural speech kicking off his second term.

“The golden age of America begins right now,” Trump said. “From this day forward, our country will flourish and be respected again all over the world. We will be the envy of every nation and we will not allow ourselves to be taken advantage of any longer. During every single day of the Trump administration, I will very simply put America first. “Our sovereignty will be reclaimed, our safety will be restored, the scales of justice will be rebalanced, the vicious, violent, and unfair weaponization of the Justice Department and our government will end. And our priority will be to create a nation that is proud, prosperous, and free. America will soon be greater, stronger, and far more exceptional than ever before.”

The president said he would reverse the said “crisis of trust” and the “radical and corrupt establishment” that has failed to address tragic and destructive natural disasters that have hit many areas of the country, including the five wildfires that have raged across Los Angles, California.

Trump dubbed his reemergence into power as “Liberation Day” for American citizens.

“Just a few months ago, in that beautiful Pennsylvania field, an assassin’s bullet ripped through my ear. But I felt then, and believe even more so now, that my life was saved for a reason. I was saved by God to make America great again … That is why each day, under our administration of American patriots, we will be working to meet every crisis with dignity power, and strength. We will move with purpose and speed to bring back hope, prosperity, safety, and peace for citizens of every race, religion, color, and creed. For American citizens, Jan. 20, 2025, is Liberation Day.”

With promises to reform the border crisis, Trump announced he will issue executive orders to end catch and release, declare a national emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border, and reenact his Remain in Mexico policy as the now-former president looked on.

“First, I will declare a national emergency at our southern border,” the president said. “All illegal entry will immediately be halted and we will begin the process of returning millions and millions of criminal aliens back to the places from which they came. We will reinstate my Remain in Mexico policy. I will end the practice of catch and release. And I will send troops to the southern border to repel the disastrous invasion of our country.”

The 47th president further announced he would sign an executive order to “eliminate” all foreign gang networks and designate cartels as “foreign terrorist organizations.”

Trump also promised to end inflation by “rapidly” bringing down costs and by declaring a “national energy emergency.” He also vowed to scrap the Green New Deal and the Biden administration’s mandate on electric vehicles (EV) while returning automobile manufacturing to the U.S.

“We will be a rich nation again, and it is that liquid gold under our feet that will help to do it. With my actions today, we will end the Green New Deal and we will revoke the electric vehicle mandate, saving our auto industry and keeping my sacred pledge to our great American autoworkers,” Trump said. “In other words, you’ll be able to buy the car of your choice. We will build automobiles in America again at a rate that nobody could have dreamt possible just a few years ago.”

The Biden administration witnessed staggering inflation through its four years, which rose from just 1.4% when Biden took office in January 2021 to a peak of 9% in June 2022. Inflation dropped below 3% for the first time in two years in July.

In March 2024, the Biden administration’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) unveiled its plan requiring  67% of all light-duty vehicles sold after model year 2032 to be EVs or hybrids.

Trump promised to expand “manifest destiny” by sending American astronauts to Mars and by reclaiming the Panama Canal, vowing that his administration will carry the nation “into new and beautiful horizons.” He said his leadership will result in the U.S. being “respected” and “admired again” on the global stage as the nation “will be prosperous” and “will win like never before.”
