President-elect Donald J. Trump will tap Sean Curran as the new director of the U.S. Secret Service, turning to the head of his personal detail to helm the troubled agency which has been intensely criticized for breakdowns that nearly led to his assassination last summer.
On Friday, Donald Trump Jr. announced that Curran would be the choice to right the ship at the USSS, describing him as a “great patriot” who will “stop all the insanity once and for all.”
The younger Trump shared a video of the iconic moment when his bloodied father rose up after being grazed by the shooter’s bullet in Butler, Pa., and defiantly raised his fist in the air, urging Americas to “Fight! Fight! Fight!” with Curran at his side as one of the agents who was protecting him in the aftermath of the failed assassination.

“Trump wanted someone he could trust, and they clearly have formed a bond after Pennsylvania,” said former Secret Service agent Bill Gage, according to Fox News.
“Even with all of the mistakes in Butler, the mistakes were from the advance team. The agents assigned to Trump and Curran performed exactly as trained,” added Gage, who served under Barack Obama and George W. Bush.

Curran is often seen at Trump’s side and keeps a low profile. According to CNN, he supervised about 85 people on the incoming president’s detail.
He will take over for acting Director Ronald Rowe who replaced Kim Cheatle who resigned under pressure after an inexplicable series of failures allowed a sniper to set up on a rooftop around 150 yards away from the stage with a clear line of sight to Trump who narrowly missed having his head blown off days before he was to be officially nominated at the Republican National Convention.
In September, a second assassination attempt failed after a gunman set up a sniper’s nest at his golf club in Florida, waiting to gun him down on the fairway but was foiled when an eagle-eyed Secret Service agent saw his gun barrel protruding from a fence.
The announcement dashes the hopes of those who were wishing that Trump would turn to conservative commentator Dan Bongino, a former Secret Service agent, to run the agency that will be responsible for his protection.
“Sean Curran is an excellent choice for Secret Service Director. We need leadership by example in so many areas of government, and he exemplifies that,” Rep. Josh Brecheen (R-OK) said in a post to X. “Americans are looking forward to the much-needed changes he will bring to the Secret Service.”
