Incoming border czar Tom Homan weighed in Thursday on Newsmax on the potential political repercussions of the Great Replacement Theory for the Democratic Party, and he said it could bolster support for President-elect Donald Trump.
During an appearance on “Finnerty,” Rob Finnerty asked Homan about the Great Replacement Theory and whether it could backfire on the Democrats. Homan said Trump has significant support from Hispanic voters, and that suggests a similar pattern could emerge in future electoral cycles. Homan said that Trump’s appeal might be rooted in his stance on safety and law enforcement, priorities that resonate with many in the Hispanic community.
“A lot of Hispanics like Donald Trump because he believes in a safe America. He wants to, you know, push down at-large crime. He wants to make our community safer. And, again, most immigrant families, when they come here illegally, they’re here illegally and they got a problem and they’re not off the table during the Trump administration as far as being deported,” Homan said.
Homan said that once immigrants settle in the U.S., regardless of their legal status, their desire for safety mirrors that of other residents.
“Once they’re here, they don’t want predators in the neighborhood either. They don’t want, they don’t want sex offenders. They don’t want someone to commit to DUI driving, driving through their neighborhoods either. And that’s why we’re going to concentrate on public safety threats first,” Homan added.
Homan said this is why many in the immigrant community, even those undocumented, support prioritizing public safety threats over blanket deportation policies.
“Even the immigrant community would rather have ICE working in the jails, but these sanctuary cities won’t let us in the jails,” Homan said.
