GOP Senator: Schumer would not allow us to be briefed on terror threats before the election

Republican Senator Katie Britt from Alabama revealed that former Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer refused to allow her party to be briefed on potential terror threats leading up to the 2024 election.

Speaking to CNN’s Jake Tapper for State of the Union, Britt explained that she was concerned about terror attacks on American soil. This comes after a contentious election cycle that saw two attempts on the life of President-elect Donald Trump and a New Year’s Day terror attack in New Orleans.

Britt believes that Schumer blocked Republican participation because he didn’t want information about potential threats to leak out to the American people, who would likely blame the current President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris and their litany of policy failures.

Speaking specifically on the ISIS-inspired attack in New Orleans that claimed the life of Alabama native Drew Dauphin, Britt blamed Biden’s Afghanistan pullout failure.

“When you rewind to where this came from, in my opinion, this is a direct result of Biden’s failed policies across the world. When you look at the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan, we know that that created a vacuum. It created a vacuum that allowed ISIS-K to continue to flourish,” she said. “Our conversations surrounding that and our request of Senator Schumer was, make sure that we understand this, so that we can do everything that we need to. This is also right after Director [Christopher] Wray said that he saw blinking lights everywhere he turned.”

“When you take the combination of these things, this is something we have to take seriously,” the lawmaker continued. “We cannot allow these things to happen on American soil. Getting answers and understanding how we equipped our law enforcement, our FBI and others with the tools they need to combat this is critically important. We’re going to keep pushing.”

“But it was it was incredibly disappointing that Senator Schumer chose to not allow us to have those. It was clearly in the midst of the election cycle, and I can‘t help but think that part of that, obviously, was to keep that information from leaking out,” she added.
