Trump announces new ‘beautiful’ patriotic name for Gulf of Mexico

Daily Caller News Foundation

President-elect Donald Trump announced his plan to change the Gulf of Mexico’s name to the “Gulf of America” during a Tuesday press conference.

Trump said during the press conference at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, Florida, that the potential new name for the gulf is “beautiful” and “appropriate” as Mexico continues to allow “millions” of illegal immigrants to enter the U.S. through the southern border. The president-elect called Mexico a “very dangerous place” that is ultimately “run by the cartels,” and has threatened the nation with economic consequences over the border crisis.

“We going to be changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, which has a beautiful ring, that covers a lot of territory,” Trump said. “The Gulf of America, what a beautiful name, and it’s appropriate. It’s appropriate, and Mexico has to stop allowing millions of people to pour into our country, they can stop them and we’re gonna put very serious tariffs on Mexico and Canada.”

Following Trump’s statement, Republican Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene announced on X that she would be introducing legislation to change the gulf’s name.

“President Trump’s second term is off to a GREAT start. I’ll be introducing legislation ASAP to officially change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to its rightful name, the Gulf of America!” Greene said.

Trump has threatened to impose 25% tariffs on all products from Mexico and Canada unless their governments meet his demands, leading former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo to hold meetings with the president-elect on the matter. In response, Canada has prepared to strengthen its immigration enforcement by hiring more staff and adding more resources in the chance that an immigration surge occurs due to Trump’s victory.

The president-elect has suggested that Canada merge with the U.S. following Trudeau’s resignation on Monday.
