Man recalls horrifying moment he realizes his friend was not with him after New Orleans terror attack

New Year’s celebrations came to an abrupt and terrifying halt in New Orleans, and one man recalled the details with horrifying clarity.

Suspect Shamsud-Din Jabbar is accused of driving a truck into a crowd of partiers on Bourbon Street, killing at least 15 people. While speaking with local news, one young man who had been in attendance described the moment he thought he and his friends had made it safely away from the chaos, only to find out that wasn’t the case.

Watch:

“He’s coming all up onto the sidewalk and all that,” the young man said, referring to the attacker. “By that time we had already made it inside the divot… er, is what I thought. Until, once we get inside the divot and the car passes, I turn around to like look who’s all in here because there was supposed to be three of us … and I don’t see my friend.”

At this point, he becomes visibly emotional and describes how he reacted to the heart-stopping realization he was missing someone close to him.

“I just start screaming and I’m yelling like ‘Na, Na where are you?’ And I turn and I look in the street and her right leg is flipped like, horror movie style over her back and there’s just blood,” he said as the clip ended.

One X user tracked down a video that is believed to be the moment the man above is describing, but it is incredibly hard to watch. Viewer discretion is advised:

Others voiced their sympathies for the man and all who experienced this tragic event firsthand:
