Dem lawmaker breaks with party, urges cooperation with Trump; ‘Resign’ demands Olbermann

Democrats are digging in to man the ramparts in opposition to President-elect Donald J. Trump, but at least one lawmaker has broken from the pack by suggesting that the nation would be better served if they tried to find common ground.

In a New Year’s Day op-ed published by the New York Times, Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-NY) says that perhaps it’s time to dial down the resistance and work toward finding compromise with the incoming president. This plea is likely to fall on deaf ears and have the Long Island congressman branded as a heretic, if not run out of office.

“As a Democratic member of Congress, I know my party will be tempted to hold fast against Mr. Trump at every turn: uniting against his bills, blocking his nominees, and grinding the machinery of the House and the Senate to a halt. That would be a mistake,” Suozzi wrote.

“I’m no dupe: Some of Mr. Trump’s actions offer little reassurance that he is ready to embrace the bipartisanship and compromise essential to a functioning democracy,” he said, airing his grievances with some of the soon-to-be 47th president’s nominees, including Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, but that’s not enough to stop him from urging a return to the old days of bipartisanship.

“But if Mr. Trump wants to have a more effective presidency than he had in his first term, he needs to embrace his inner dealmaker and negotiate with the other party that holds just shy of half of the seats on Capitol Hill and key governorships around the country. And if he does that work, Democrats should meet him halfway rather than be the Party of No,” Suozzi added.

Cooperation is a concept that’s completely alien to the modern iteration of the Democratic Party which would rather burn America to the ground than reach across the aisle for the betterment of the country.

Hell no! Said rabidly uncooperative X users led by Keith Olbermann, the crazed former MSNBC/ESPN host who demanded Suozzi’s resignation.

“Have you been on Mars the last ten years? The Democrats have tried exactly the cooperation you think you just invented. It has failed because Trump does not want cooperation, he wants subservience,” raged the reclusive left-winger. “Also your statement ‘I’m no dupe’? Incorrect. You are the definition of one. And a collaborator. Resign.”

Others were equally hostile to Suozzi’s appeal to reason.

“This time in history is both a warning and an opportunity. My New Year’s resolution is to rise above partisanship and bickering, reject extremism and embrace common sense, and keep building relationships with Republicans and Democrats to get things done,” wrote Suozzi who replaced scandal-tainted former Rep. George Santos last year.
