Kamala Harris mural in Florida painted over due to persistent vandalism

An artistic ode to Vice President Kamala Harris in Tallahassee, Florida is being painted over after being repeatedly vandalized.

The mural, located in Railroad Square, was defaced at least twice. The graffiti added to the portrait included a mustache and goatee, and someone also used paint to make it look like she was missing teeth.

It’s no surprise that the mural attracted negative attention. In 2023 when the art was painted, the business had some difficulty with reviews after some customers were displeased with the new addition.

“I have a daughter and a granddaughter and to tell them that I want them to be as successful as they can, whatever they want to do they can achieve,” said Nick Seabolt, the artist behind the mural.

Owner Justine Spells had a similar sentiment.

“It’s saying to the little girls throughout America that women can hold these high-ranking positions that we have not been able to attain until last year,” she said. “It’s not a political statement. It’s a women supporting women statement.”

While this is being considered a loss for the art district in Tallahassee, X users had a different take:
