SNL audience cheers wildly when alleged CEO killer’s name mentioned

There may be no greater sign of the institutional left’s success in demonizing capitalism and success that the reception alleged murderer Luigi Mangione has received since UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was executed on a New York City street.

Social media users seem to be obsessed with Mangione while there is no sympathy for Thompson, a husband and father to two teenage boys, because he works in a fundamentally broken industry that many Americans see as little more than a racket.

When Mangione’s name was mentioned on Saturday Night Live during the Weekend Update skit, the liberal 30 Rock audience broke into a wild cheer, with women being the most vocal in fawning over the suspected killer.

Remarkably, a Give Send Go page set up for Luigi’s Defense Fund has collected over $180,000 — the campaign description begins with a Bible verse: “Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD your God which He has given you.”

While some people may relate to the suspect’s motive, James Dennehy, assistant director in charge of the FBI’s New York field office, reminded people in a statement last week about Mangione’s “cavalier attitude toward humanity.”

“Luigi Mangione allegedly conducted the carefully premeditated and targeted execution of Brian Thompson to incite national debates,” Dennehy said. “This alleged plot demonstrates a cavalier attitude towards humanity — deeming murder an appropriate recourse to satiate personal grievances.”

Then again, charming serial killer Ted Bundy was the recipient of countless love letters and marriage proposals.

Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on the social media platform X:
