Schiff sworn into new Senate gig a month early

Trump antagonist Adam Schiff, aka “Pencil Neck,” is getting a jump on the rest of the 119th Congress, having been sworn in Monday by post-elect recluse Vice President Kamala Harris.

“Shifty Schiff,” who lied to the nation about there being clear evidence of President Donald Trump colluding with Russia, slipped in early because Sen. Lephonza Butler (D-CA), who was appointed by Gov. Gavin Newsom to replace the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein, resigned over the weekend, allowing a three-week head start for the Trump-hating former congressman.

Sen. Andy Kim (D-NJ) was sworn in as well, after similar shenanigans by now-former Sen. George Helmy, who was appointed by Gov. Phil Murphy (D-NJ) to succeed corrupt former Sen. Bob Menendez. Sen. Pete Ricketts (R-NE), who won a special election to the seat he had been previously appointed to, was also sworn in.

Schiff and Kim will be sworn in again on Jan. 3, 2025, at the start of their full six-year terms in the new Congress. Both resigned their House seats over the weekend, giving the GOP a slightly larger majority in the House for the next three weeks.

“The Senate Democrats add two high-ranking caliber leaders who have already had great reputations in the House, where they got a whole lot done,” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) crowed.

“Schiff brings to the Senate an impressive record as a leading voice among House Democrats, where he was known for his piercing eloquence, his thoughtfulness, his unwavering support of democracy, and his courage,” he added. “As former chair of the House Intelligence Committee, he brings deep expertise and knowledge that will make him just a great senator.”

Schumer said of Kim, the nation’s first Korean American senator: “He’s one of the most respected and admired in the House Democratic Caucus, where his talent was only matched by his decency. He boasts an impressive record of service as a national security expert and diplomat, and spent every day in Congress putting families first.”
