‘Do your thing, Trump’: Charlamagne praises president-elect for opposing New York congestion tax

Daily Caller News Foundation

Radio host Charlamagne Tha God lauded President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday for opposing Democratic New York Gov. Kathy Hochul’s congestion pricing plan.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority approved the $9 toll program for drivers entering Manhattan in a 12-1 vote Monday and is set to begin in January, The New York Times reported. When journalist Morgyn Wood said on “The Breakfast Club” that Trump is expected to “kill the entire thing,” Charlamagne voiced support for the president-elect’s anticipated action against the plan.

“And guess what? That’s a good thing. Listen, here’s the thing. This is why I keep telling folks, you know, whether you voted for the person or not, when the person does something that you agree with, I’m all for it,” Charlamagne said. “I don’t want these congestion prices in New York City … Do your thing, Trump. Do your thing.”

Trump has asserted that he would move to abolish the policy shortly after taking office, according to the NYT. The president-elect told the New York Post on Thursday that he vehemently opposes Hochul’s plan.

“I have great respect for the Governor of New York, Kathy Hochul, and look forward to working with her to Make New York and America Great Again. But I strongly disagree with the decision on the congestion tax,” the president-elect said, adding, “It has never worked, but especially so with a city, town, or village that is trying to come back from very rough times, which can certainly be said of New York City. It will put New York City at a disadvantage over competing cities and states, and businesses will flee.”

Transportation and environmental advocates support the plan due to its potential to reduce traffic, improve air quality, and enhance mass transit, according to the NYT. However, congressional Republicans and Democratic New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy have also expressed opposition to the plan.
