Trump makes historic press secretary pick: ‘Already expertly skilled at triggering CNN hosts’

President-elect Donald Trump announced on Friday that he’s chosen his 2024 campaign press secretary to serve as White House press secretary.

By taking on this role, Karoline Leavitt, 27, will become the youngest person to ever serve as White House press secretary.

“Karoline Leavitt did a phenomenal job as the National Press Secretary on my Historic Campaign, and I am pleased to announce she will serve as White House Press Secretary,” Trump said in a statement.

“Karoline is smart, tough, and has proven to be a highly effective communicator. I have the utmost confidence she will excel at the podium, and help deliver our message to the American People as we, Make America Great Again,” he added.

Leavitt has been a fierce defender of Trump amid relentless attacks from Vice President Kamala Harris’ now-failed campaign.

“They forced him to take a mug shot, they tried to remove his name off of the ballot, they forced him to sit in a dirty courthouse for six weeks, two people tried to kill him, for goodness sake,” she said on Fox News‘s “Fox & Friends” last week. “And the American people see, in Donald Trump, a leader who even in the darkest of times is going to lift his fist in the air and say, ‘fight, fight, fight’ for this country.”

“Democracy appeared to be the number one issue for voters. It’s clear that the American people believe President Trump is the best candidate to preserve our democracy. And it shows the Democrats’ message in these final weeks of the campaign that he’s this alleged threat to democracy just didn’t work in the eyes of the American people,” she added.

Leavitt has also been a fierce critic of the corporate press.

“Throughout the campaign, Ms. Leavitt adopted Mr. Trump’s disdain for the mainstream media in frequent appearances on major television networks and conservative outlets,” The New York Times admits.

“Mr. Trump was pleased with her performance and looked to her as a trusted voice to defend him on television, according to people who worked on the Trump campaign,” the reporting continues.

Leavitt previously served as assistant press secretary to White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany during Trump’s first term in office.

She later ran to represent New Hampshire’s 1st Congressional District and won in the 2022 GOP primary but lost the general election. She also previously served as Rep. Elise Stefanik’s spokesperson.

Leavitt celebrated President-elect Trump’s 2024 presidential election victory earlier this month with a lengthy post published on Twitter/X.

“Congratulations to my boss, the 45th and 47th President of the United States,” she wrote. “It’s been the honor of a lifetime to speak on behalf of President Trump and this historic campaign.”

“I’ll never forget the feeling of joy when the race was officially called, standing backstage with the hardest working team in politics. In that moment, all of the blood, sweat, and tears were instantly worth it. Thank you President Trump for going through hell in your selfless pursuit to Save America,” she added.

Leavitt will be Trump’s fifth White House press secretary, succeeding Kayleigh McEnany, Stephanie Grisham, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, and of course Sean Spicer.

The youngest person to serve as White House press secretary before Leavitt was Ron Ziegler, who served under then-President Richard Nixon.
