Voter Integrity Act tops “to do” list

Op-ed views and opinions expressed are solely those of the author.

“Same day voting. Paper ballots only. Photo I.D. required. Signature verification. Proof of Citizenship.”

These are the items that Republicans will hopefully seek in a final legislative response during Donald Trump’s first 100 days. It’s a no brainer! Why would anyone be opposed to these make sense measures? Simple! They would remove “cheating” as a path to victory. Let’s reflect on this observation.

Jimmy Carter’s Insight

Many weren’t around when the Georgia peanut farmer was our president. His was an administration that is often remembered unkindly. Yet it was Carter who insightfully warned America of the dangers of mail-in ballots. As Carter phrased, “it will increase chances of fraud.”
You think?

COVID represented a golden opportunity for Democrats to pull out all stops toward fulfilling their Neo-socialist, globalist agenda. With mail-in ballots, it was possible to manufacture as many votes as necessary to swing an election their way. We say it in 2020. Sadly, we are seeing it again in 2024. However, with a House majority, we might be able to end the specter of unrestricted mail-in voting once and for all.

Common Sense Provisions

Absentee provision has always been allowed and would continue to be permissible. Some restrictions could apply. But there will always be allowances made for individuals who cannot be at their designated polling place.

Should mail-in voting be allowed? Absolutely. With a doctor’s excuse that states that the voter is physically unable to participate in person, why not?

Americans deployed abroad or from their home district should always be allowed to participate.
So, what’s the problem?

Try getting on an airplane without a driver’s license or some alternative photo I.D.! Ditto for opening a checking account at a bank. Not going to happen!

Proof of citizenship? Come on! You must be a United States citizen to vote. It’s the law! Why would anyone take issue with such a stipulation?
Signature verification? Why would this be a problem?

The answer to these questions can be summed up in one sentence: “These measures will take “cheating” off the board as a pathway toward victory.”

An Alarming Reality

Don’t look now, but the same thing that apparently happened in 2020 is repeating in 2024. Interesting how Senate races in Michigan, Wisconsin and Nevada looked like slam dunks for the Republicans. Then the mail-in votes started pouring it. Isn’t it strange to note how many more Democrat votes came in? Arizona can be described as a “train wreck!” Even in Pennsylvania with a race that was decided almost a week ago, Bob Casey and company are attempting to alter the outcome.

This may be Republican’s last chance to make sure that every legal vote will be counted. A “Voter Integrity Act” would slam the door on voter fraud, once and for all! For the sake of the nation, it must happen. When one state asserts that another state’s selection was compromised, the offended state is justified in alleging “disenfranchisement.” As Texas claimed in 2020, Pennsylvania changing their election laws in midstream, may have altered the result.

Do federal elections fall under federal prevue? I think that they do. Any change made at the state level could be challenged as potentially disenfranchising to another state. A prime example is Alaska’s “ranked choice voting.” In an amendment to the legislation, this ill-advised standard should be outlawed, once and for all.

This might be a stretch but consider this: “What if we packaged “English as the official language” in such an amendment? According to the Washington D.C. advocacy group, U.S. English, 87% of America favors it. Such a measure would save the states millions of dollars! Has anyone checked to see how much we are spending to offer services including voting ballots in multiple languages?

Packaging a related measure that is immensely popular with the majority with a measure that is designed to eliminate voter fraud is simply smart. And long overdue!

Better yet, we could require passage of a “fourth grade English proficiency examination” as a pre-requisite for a green card. This isn’t new. Australia and New Zealand do it. It ensures that we get immigrants who stand ready to assimilate.

All measures suggested would make America stronger, safer, smarter and more secure. It’s time to exhibit some common sense.
