President-elect Donald Trump has tapped U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) to be the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.
That’s according to the New York Post, which further reported that Stefanik, a fierce Trump ally, has accepted the offer, pending Senate confirmation.
“I am honored to nominate Chairwoman Elise Stefanik to serve in my Cabinet as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. Elise is an incredibly strong, tough, and smart America First fighter,” Trump announced in a statement to the newspaper.
Under the Trump administration, a return to a “peace through strength” posture can be expected.
“I am truly honored to earn President Trump’s nomination to serve in his Cabinet as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations,” Stefanik said in a statement, according to the Post. “During my conversation with President Trump, I shared how deeply humbled I am to accept his nomination and that I look forward to earning the support of my colleagues in the United States Senate.”
“President Trump’s historic landslide election has given hope to the American people and is a reminder that brighter days are ahead — both at home and abroad,” she continued. “America continues to be the beacon of the world, but we expect and must demand that our friends and allies be strong partners in the peace we seek.”
Trump also announced Sunday night via Truth Social that former acting ICE Director Tom Homan will be his “border czar” in charge of the nation’s borders and the administration’s deportation efforts.
“I am pleased to announce that the Former ICE Director, and stalwart on Border Control, Tom Homan, will be joining the Trump Administration, in charge of our Nation’s Borders (“The Border Czar”), including, but not limited to, the Southern Border, the Northern Border, all Maritime, and Aviation Security,” Trump posted. “I’ve known Tom for a long time, and there is nobody better at policing and controlling our Borders. Likewise, Tom Homan will be in charge of all Deportation of Illegal Aliens back to their Country of Origin. Congratulations to Tom. I have no doubt he will do a fantastic, and long awaited for, job.”
Earlier last week, Trump announced his campaign Chairwoman Susie Wiles will serve as his White House chief of staff — the first woman to ever serve in the role.
“The work ahead is immense as we see antisemitism skyrocketing coupled with four years of catastrophically weak U.S. leadership that significantly weakened our national security and diminished our standing in the eyes of both allies and adversaries,” Stefanik said in her statement. “I stand ready to advance President Donald J. Trump’s restoration of America First peace through strength leadership on the world stage on Day One at the United Nations.”
Trump’s election is not expected to bode well for Iran, as Stefanik noted in an X post shared on Saturday.
“The U.S. is ready for a return to President Trump’s MAXIMUM PRESSURE campaign against Iran. For too long, our enemies have been emboldened by the weakness of the Biden-Harris Administration. With President Trump in charge, Peace through Strength is back,” she wrote.
