The results of the presidential election amount to more than support for Donald Trump. They represent a repudiation of the Left’s diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) campaign that has divided the nation according to immutable characteristics, i.e., race, color, gender. Kamala Harris could only hope to be president based on her sex and skin color. She has no other qualifications. The country’s response was quite clear on Tuesday: not good enough, baby.
America has flourished because we are a meritocracy. The Biden/Harris administration has endorsed the replacement of meritocracy with the phony banner of diversity. Meritocracy and diversity are opposites. Instead of promoting people based on competence, advocates of diversity want promotions to be based on race and gender. With the ascendancy of identity politics, said Scott Greer in No Campus for White Men, “skin color trumps merit—as long as that skin isn’t white.”
“The rejection of objective standards of accomplishment is nihilistic,” said Heather Mac Donald in When Race Trumps Merit. “The diversity movement deems color-blind measures of competence to be unjust instruments of racial exclusion.” The entire basis of American exceptionalism—competence—is being outlawed.
Evidence of the trend is everywhere. The majority of top-25 medical schools are supporting equity and critical race theory. “Medical schools are discarding traditional standards of merit in order to alter the demographic characteristics of their profession,” says Heather Mac Donald. The physician performing your brain surgery could be the product of affirmative action. Going in for surgery would become an act of suicide, as surgeons are no longer held to standards of excellence. United Airlines has thrown merit to the winds by announcing that 50 percent of all new pilots will be chosen from among minorities and women. Eligibility for an Academy Award will no longer be based on merit. Nominees must adhere to a quota of minorities and women in both cast and crew.
Thanks to the Democrats, diversity has been applied to candidates for high office. Enter Kamala Harris—a vicious, conniving, immoral, unpopular, third-rate politician with extreme radical views—who on Tuesday came within a hair’s breadth of the presidency. How could we allow that to happen?
Harris began her career in local San Francisco politics by leveraging her affair with the married mayor, Willie Brown. After racking up a terrible record as a prosecutor, she used her political contacts to worm her way into the U.S. Senate. Her only claim to fame as a senator was her despicable treatment of Brett Kavanaugh during his confirmation hearing for the Supreme Court. Based on notoriety from that fiasco, she campaigned for the presidency. Democrat Party voters, recognizing that she is nothing more than a mendacious, unprincipled opportunist, relegated Harris to the bottom of the pile and ended her presidential aspirations—but not for long. In a sort of magician’s hat trick, Harris managed to land on the ballot as Biden’s pick for VP.
Kamala has accomplished nothing of value during her tenure as vice president. Biden made her the “border czar,” which resulted in total failure. (Unless her real job was to keep the border wide open.) Harris has endorsed the Green New Deal, income redistribution, open borders, defunding and disbanding the police, repealing the first and second amendments, and—ultimately—socialism. During the 2020 riots, Harris did nothing to uphold the rule of law. On the contrary—she raised money to defend the rioters.
Without having to lift a finger, nonentity Harris was chosen by the Democratic Party elite to replace Joe Biden on the presidential ticket based not on her record or qualifications, but solely on her race and gender. No one voted for her in a primary election, as is normally the case. Many voters bought the Kool Aid and supported her but on Tuesday, the majority of American voters said they have had enough of identity politics.
In an attempt to rationalize Harris’ loss, some of her allies in the press are blaming racism and sexism. To their credit, the voters didn’t fall for this baloney. They perceived that Harris is an empty suit and diversity be damned. We can’t afford to have a zero sitting in the White House.
The day we repudiate merit is the day America crumbles. Happily, that day has not arrived and Harris is not the president-elect. Never forget how close we came.
