The Department of Justice has shown a monumental contempt for justice. It has made a practice of going after political opponents of the Biden/Harris administration. On the eve of the presidential election, the DOJ is doing whatever it can to ensure that noncitizens are able to vote.
The State of Virginia cancelled 1,600 voter registrations in the past two months as part of its campaign to prevent noncitizens from voting. U.S. District Judge Patricia Giles has granted the DOJ’s request for an injunction on the grounds that Virginia violated the National Voter Registration Act. It restricts states from amending their voter rolls during a 90-day “quiet period” before an election.Charles Cooper, a lawyer for the state, argued that federal law was never intended to provide protections to noncitizens, who can’t vote in federal elections. “It should never be illegal to remove an illegal voter,” said Virginia’s attorney general, Jason Miyares. “Yet, today a Court—urged by the Biden-Harris Department of Justice—ordered Virginia to put the names of noncitizens back on the voter rolls, mere days before a presidential election.”
“There’s going to hundreds of noncitizens back on those rolls,” said Cooper. “If a noncitizen votes, it cancels out a legal vote. And that is a harm.”
The judge agreed with the DOJ’s allegation that voters had been mistakenly removed from the rolls because they allegedly checked the wrong box on a Department of Motor Vehicles form indicating they are not a citizen. State officials responded by saying that all voters identified as noncitizens were notified and given two weeks to dispute their disqualification before being removed. If they responded, their registration would not be canceled.
“This is a stunning ruling by a federal judge,” said Virginia Governor Glen Youngkin. “Let’s be clear about what just happened,” said Youngkin, “only eleven days before a presidential election, a federal judge ordered Virginia to reinstate over 1,500 individuals—who self-identified themselves as noncitizens—back onto the voter rolls.”
In a similar ruling, a federal judge in Alabama ordered the state to restore eligibility for more than 3,200 voters who had been deemed ineligible noncitizens. It seems that the policy of our Justice Department is to encourage noncitizens to vote.
