Erik and Lyle Menendez’s uncle has come out against their potential resentencing and release back into society.

Milton Andersen, the brother of the Menendez brothers’ deceased mother, Kitty, slammed Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón in a statement released this week by his attorney.

First, he claimed that Gascon never sought his counsel before pursuing his nephews’ potential resentencing and release.

“Despite numerous requests, Gascón has refused to inform Mr. Andersen of any decisions before holding press conferences,” the statement from attorney Kathleen Cady reads, as reported by Fox News.

“Mr. Andersen has been left in the dark, forced to learn crucial updates about his sister’s case through the media, rather than being treated with the dignity and respect he deserves,” it adds.

“Mr. Gascón’s disdain for Mr. Andersen is absolutely criminal. He didn’t see fit to let Mr. Andersen know what he was going to do before he told the general public, and that is extremely offensive,” it continues.

Then Andersen questioned the credibility of new “evidence” allegedly proving that the brothers’ deceased father really did molest them.

This evidence includes the claim by Roy Rossello, a former member of the boy band Menudo, that their father molested him in the 1980s.

The evidence also includes a letter that Erik Menendez once wrote to his cousin detailing his father’s sexual abuse of him and his brother.

“It is unconscionable that Gascon, whose ethical obligation is to pursue justice with integrity, has ignored my multiple notifications about individuals coming forward with information that seriously questions the credibility of the so-called ‘new evidence’ in this case,” the statement from Andersen’s lawyer reads.

“Yet, Gascón has shown no interest in reviewing or investigating this evidence, turning a blind eye to potential flaws in his pursuit to rewrite history,” it continues.

Andersen also accused his nephews of having killed his sister and brother-in-law because of greed, not alleged abuse.

“Mr. Andersen believes that the reason that his nephews murdered Kitty and her husband was because of greed,” the statement reads. “He prefers that they stay in prison because he believes that’s what justice requires.”

“Mr. Andersen remains convinced that the sentence that was originally imposed by the judge was the appropriate one, and he hopes the judge does not go along with Gascon’s recommended sentence,” it continues.

Speaking later with Chicago station WLS, Cady again stressed that her client doesn’t believe her nephews’ claims of being abused.

“Mr. Andersen firmly believes that his nephews were not molested,” Cady said. “He believes that is a fabrication and he believes that the motive was pure greed.”

Andersen also accused Gascón of taking up the Menendez case because of politics. His proof was the fact that, despite the new “evidence” emerging over a year ago, only now — days ahead of a crucial election that the DA is poised to lose — is he pursuing the brothers’ release.

Gascón’s challenger in the race, former federal prosecutor Nathan Hochman, has posited the same allegation:

The latest update in the case came Thursday when Gascón recommended that the brothers be resentenced.

“He said will ask the judge to consider resentencing the brothers to 50 years to life,” according to CBS News. “Because they committed the crimes when they were under the age of 26 years old, they would be eligible for parole, he said. Gascón said the final decision will be made by the judge, and then it would go before a parole board, which will determine if the brothers should be released.”

However, in a stunning statement made to People magazine, Gascón admitted that not everybody in his office supports his decision.

“There are some people in my office that believe that there is no evidence of molestation,” he said. “I don’t agree with that, but that’s certainly the position that some people have taken, and they believe that they should stay in prison the rest of their life.”
