It’s no surprise that those who hate former President Donald Trump would attempt to prevent people from hearing his message, but their plan may not be as fool-proof as they thought.
George Conway, the ex-husband of KellyAnne Conway, and Lincoln Project’s Rick Wilson teamed up to sarcastically encourage their combined audience to reserve tickets for Trump’s Madison Square Garden event. On October 14, Conway posted a link to the rally, encouraging his followers to sign up.

Wilson reposted the message, adding his own sarcastic quip: “Oh no. This is totally wrong to flood the zone on this. No one should do this.”

“You’re right. I’m very, very sorry for encouraging people to sign up for Trump’s rally at 5:00 pm on October 27 at Madison Square Garden, 4 Penn Plaza in Manhattan (between West 31 and 33 Sts. and Seventh and Eighth Aves., readily accessible via the A, B, C, D, E, F, M, N, Q, R, W, 1, 2, and 3 trains, plus Amtrak, LIRR, NJ Transit and PATH) and I urge people not to click this link and fill out the form,” Conway replied, with a link to the form.

Their followers quickly signed up to “reserve” seats, without the intention of ever showing up to the rally. The idea is to leave a bunch of empty seats to make it look like nobody is interested in hearing Trump speak and create a massive overflow where his actual followers will be forced to watch him on a screen rather than in person.
Oops, looks like I’ve registered for 2 tickets for the trump rally in New York City!
I sure hope I’m able to attend, because if not, those will be 2 more empty seats at his rally. And if everyone did that, wouldn’t it be just terrible!
You totally shouldn’t take the two… https://t.co/QbhkH4Qocn pic.twitter.com/Y271uA0MAD

There’s just a little problem: Reserving seats doesn’t mean anything. The seats are given away on a first come first serve basis, as is mentioned on the event page where people are signing up. This means that tickets will be given away until all available seating is taken, and all others who were not able to secure a seat will be placed in overflow.
What this does, is give the Trump campaign the mobile numbers and emails of those reserving seats, so they can be added to a growing contact list.
