A majority of registered voters support banning sex-change surgery procedures for minors, according to an October poll from Noble Predictive Insights and The Center Square.
Out of all registered voters, Republican, Democrat, and Independent, 59% are against sex change-related procedures for minors, including surgeries and puberty blockers, the poll shows. Numerous Democrats have expressed support for these transgender-related procedures, including Vice President and Democratic presidential nominee, Kamala Harris and her administration.
Another key issue voters expressed disapproval on is the new policy changes from the Biden administration on the original Title IX statute, which now caters to transgender individuals, allowing them to enter women’s restrooms and locker rooms. Around 31% of voters “strongly disapprove” of these policy changes and only 23% “strongly approve.”
The percentage of female registered voters who strongly approve of a ban on sex change surgeries for minors and puberty blockers is 56%, the poll shows. Approximately 63% of men who are registered to vote do not approve of transgender-related procedures, favoring a ban.
Registered voters in the U.S. have a history of opposing sex change procedures for minors, according to several polls.
An August 2023 poll from Center Square and Noble Predictive Insights found that 58% of registered voters strongly disapproved of sex change procedures and puberty blockers. Only 10% said children under the age of 18 should be able to undergo these procedures, while 21% felt children should be able to, but only with parental consent.
Despite Harris’ stance on the procedures, 50% of the registered voters surveyed said they trusted the Vice President regarding the issue of healthcare, according to the poll. Only 43% of men and 35% of women stated they trusted former President and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
Noble Predictive Insights’ poll was conducted from Oct. 2-4, with a sample of 2,560 respondents who were surveyed via an opt-in panel and “text-to-web” messages. The poll included 1,135 Republicans, 1,162 Democrats, and 263 Independents and had a margin of error of +/- 1.9% for registered voters and +/- 2.1% for likely voters.
